LogPad Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 12, 2026
Privacy Commitment: LogPad is designed with privacy at its core. Your journal entries are yours. We do not operate a LogPad server that stores or processes your journal content.
What Data We Collect
Journal Entries
Your journal entries, tags, mentions, attachments, and metadata are stored in LogPad's app storage using Apple's Core Data framework. When iCloud is available for LogPad, entries may sync through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure to your personal iCloud account.
iCloud Sync (Using Apple's Infrastructure)
LogPad includes iCloud sync for all users:
- Your entries sync to your personal iCloud account via Apple's NSPersistentCloudKitContainer and CloudKit
- Data is handled by Apple's iCloud infrastructure and protected according to Apple's iCloud security practices
- We do not operate a separate LogPad sync server for your journal content
- If iCloud is unavailable, LogPad keeps data local until sync can resume
Purchase Information
If you purchase LogPad Premium:
- Apple handles all payment processing through StoreKit 2
- The app checks App Store purchase entitlements to unlock Premium access
- We DO NOT collect or store your payment information
- We DO NOT collect your name, email, or personal details
Diagnostics and App Improvement Data
LogPad may use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to understand crashes, reliability issues, and general app usage. These services are not used to collect your journal text, search queries, exported files, or attachment contents.
What Data We Don't Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store journal content on our own servers. LogPad does not collect:
- Your journal entries or content
- Your search queries
- Location data
- Contacts or photos (even if mentioned in entries)
- Your name, email, or personal information
- Payment card details
How LogPad Features Work Privately
AI Semantic Search
Semantic search uses Apple's on-device Natural Language framework where supported:
- All AI processing happens entirely on your iPhone/iPad
- Embeddings are generated locally and stored in a local SQLite database
- No data is sent to external AI APIs or servers
- Search queries never leave your device
Smart Folders
Smart folder filters are evaluated locally on your device. No folder data or filter criteria is sent to our servers.
Export
When you export your journal (PDF, Markdown, or Plain Text), the file is generated locally on your device and shared using iOS's native share sheet. We never see the exported content.
Widgets
Widgets display your entries using data available to LogPad on your device. Widget content is not sent to a LogPad server.
Third-Party Services
LogPad uses the following Apple frameworks and services:
- StoreKit 2: For in-app purchases (managed by Apple)
- CloudKit: For iCloud sync (managed by Apple, uses your iCloud account)
- NaturalLanguage: For on-device semantic search (runs locally, no data sent to Apple)
LogPad also uses Firebase services:
- Firebase Crashlytics: For crash reports and stability diagnostics
- Firebase Analytics: For app usage insights and product improvement
LogPad does NOT use:
- Advertising networks or trackers
- Social media SDKs
- External AI APIs for semantic search
- A LogPad server for storing journal entries
Data Security
Your journal data is protected through:
- Local Protection: Data stored in Core Data benefits from iOS device protection
- iCloud Protection: Synced data is handled by Apple's CloudKit/iCloud security infrastructure
- App Sandbox: iOS sandboxing prevents other apps from accessing LogPad's data
Your Rights and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Export: Export entries to Markdown, Plain Text, or PDF; PDF export may require Premium
- Delete Anytime: Delete individual entries or clear all data in Settings
- iCloud Control: Manage iCloud availability for LogPad through iOS iCloud settings
- Premium: Premium is currently a lifetime in-app purchase, not a subscription
- No Vendor Lock-In: Your data is exportable in open formats
Children's Privacy
LogPad is rated 4+ and suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Journal content is stored in the app and may sync through Apple's iCloud infrastructure when available.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of LogPad after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Bottom Line: LogPad is a privacy-first journaling app. Your journal content is stored locally and can sync through your Apple iCloud account. Semantic search runs on-device, and we do not operate a server that stores your entries.
