Getting Started
PencilTime is a full-featured digital planner designed for Apple Pencil and touch input. Here's how to get started:
1. Choose Your View
- Day View: Hourly schedule with calendar integration
- Week View: 7-day overview for planning ahead
- Month View: Full month calendar with daily planning
- Year View: Annual overview for long-term goals
2. Start Drawing
- Select a pen tool from the toolbar at the top
- Choose from 150+ colors across 6 themed palettes
- Draw with Apple Pencil or your finger
- Use the eraser to make corrections
- Undo/redo with the arrow buttons
3. Add Stickers (Optional)
- Tap the sticker icon in the toolbar
- Choose emoji or text stickers to highlight important items
- Long-press any sticker to edit, move, or delete it
- Copy stickers to quickly duplicate them
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I enable iCloud sync?
iCloud sync is a premium feature. After subscribing, go to Settings (gear icon) → Toggle "Saved to iCloud" to ON. Your planner will automatically sync across all your devices signed in with the same Apple ID.
My calendar events aren't showing. What should I do?
Calendar integration is a premium feature. First, make sure you've subscribed to Premium. Then, go to iOS Settings → PencilTime → Enable "Calendars" permission. Events will appear in Day View with color-coded indicators.
How do I edit or delete a sticker?
Long-press (tap and hold for about 1 second) on any sticker to bring up the action menu. You'll see options to Lock, Move, Copy, Edit (text stickers), or Delete. For a video tutorial, go to Settings → Help & Information → "Sticker Tutorial".
Can I export my planner pages?
Yes! Tap the page preview thumbnail in any view (top-left corner) to export the current page as a PNG image. You can save it to Photos, share it, or print it.
How do I customize pen colors and sizes?
Tap the pen tool icon to open the editor. You can choose from 6 color palettes (Standard, Pastel, Neon, Earth Tones, Ocean, Sunset), adjust stroke width, and switch between pen and highlighter tools. Each of the 5 pen slots remembers its own palette preference.
What's the difference between free and premium?
Free: All views (Day, Week, Month, Year), drawing tools, and color palettes are fully functional.
Premium: Unlocks iCloud sync (keep planner synchronized across devices), Apple Calendar integration (see events in Day View), and automatic backups.

My drawings disappeared after syncing. How do I recover them?
If you recently enabled or disabled iCloud sync, your local data may be temporarily hidden. Go to Settings → Toggle "Saved to iCloud" to the opposite state, wait a moment, then toggle it back. If issues persist, contact support immediately—we can help recover your data.
Can I use PencilTime on my iPhone?
Yes! PencilTime is a universal app that works on both iPad and iPhone (iOS 17.0+). The interface adapts to portrait and landscape orientations. Premium subscribers can sync their planner seamlessly between iPad and iPhone using iCloud.
How do I change the start day of the week?
Go to Settings (gear icon) → "Start Day of Week" → Choose between Sunday or Monday. This affects how weeks are displayed in Week View and Month View.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → PencilTime → Cancel Subscription. You'll retain premium features until the end of your billing period. Your planner data will remain on your device, but iCloud sync will stop working after cancellation.
Does PencilTime work without internet?
Yes! PencilTime works completely offline. All your planner data is stored locally on your device. Internet is only needed for iCloud sync (premium feature) and in-app purchase transactions.
Is there a user manual?
Yes! Tap the menu icon (three lines) → "User Manual" to access the complete guide with screenshots and tips. You can also access it from Settings → Help & Information.

- Zoom In: Use pinch-to-zoom to draw fine details
- Color Discovery: The selected color name appears under the pen tools
